My story

Nearly two weeks ago "Rotter’s Trotters & Coe" took part in Trailwalker UK over the South Downs. We would like to thank you all so much for your support - both your generous donations and your (not always constructive!) motivation. The results?

Dan walked 88.9km (55.4 miles) in about 24 hours (about 30 miles of those on blisters).

Rachel, Keith and Claire walked 100km (62.3 miles) in 26 hours, 58 minutes and 38 seconds.

The nearest guess to our time was… Amanda Northrop with 27 hours and 2 minutes. Were our original aims met? 1) Make Keith cry… maybe not, but two of four of us shed some tears. 2) Break Claire’s spirit – I think this happened at around 2am after climbing an incredibly steep hill in the dark and then being presented with some hot spag bol. 3) Get Rachel to say something incredibly emotional – more than once. Oh, and we walked 100km. In under 30 hours.

We’d like to give huge thanks to Emma Keeling who truly supported us for the whole two days. Also Bala and Izzy who turned up to walk one of the longest stages with us.

There is now a "Trailwalker The Movie" - to watch follow the link below:

Claire, Dan, Rachel and Keith... 100 kilometres... 30 hours...

Trailwalker UK (which takes place on 18th and 19th July 2009), requires teams of four to walk a 100km course across the South Downs in less than 30 hours. That’s just over 62 miles of hills and a whole beauty sleep down the pan! Teams must start together, go through each checkpoint together and finish the course together. For more information visit: www.oxfam.org.uk/trailwalker

‘Rotter’s Trotters & Coe’ consists of Claire, Dan, Rachel and Keith, who will be joining 530 teams taking part this year. There have been various debates about how our team will get on, ranging from “It’s only a walk” to “What happens when you put two intensely sarcastic people together for 30 hours?” and “I can’t even stay awake for 24 hours…”

Trailwalker was started by Gurkha soldiers inHong Kong in 1981 as a training exercise to test endurance and encourage teamwork. We are completing the challenge in order to raise money for Oxfam and the Gurkha Welfare Trust. These funds will support Oxfam’s work in relieving poverty and suffering around the world, and The Gurkha Welfare Trust’s community projects in Nepal.

Please sponsor us as much as you can – the price of a couple of your favourite pints will be very much appreciated. If you tick the little box allowing us to contact you, we’ll even send you updates on our training progress!

Thank you so much for your support. Claire, Dan, Rachel & Keith.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Oxfam Trailwalker gets your money faster and, if you’re a taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation. If you would prefer to sponsor us by cash or cheque, please contact Claire at claire.girdler@gmail.com
