Personal message:

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.

In 2007 I began my involvement in the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race to raise funds for Clatterbridge Cancer Campaign.

My Father was diagnosed 5½ years ago with a rare form of cancer.  Through the work of the team at Clatterbridge he benefitted from drug therapy without which he would almost certainly have been facing a life expectancy of months, rather than years.   With it, he survived a further 3 years until January 2006.  The team at Clatterbridge were able to give him precious time to come to terms with his illness and to spend with his family including his adored Grandchildren who would otherwise have been too young to remember him.  He was immensely grateful for the gift of life given to him by the amazingly dedicated team at Clatterbridge.

World leading and ground breaking research is carried out at Clatterbridge at the JK Douglas laboratories, (www.ccrt.org.uk) but they survive entirely upon charitable donations.  The team at the Clatterbridge Oncology Centre (www.ccotrust.nhs.uk) gave me three years with my Father, which were, of course, priceless.  I want to help  both charities help others survive cancer and I hope you will help me.

The 2007/2008 Clipper Round the World Yacht Race www.clipper-ventures.com began from Liverpool in September 2007 at the start of a 35,000 mile race through 5 oceans and 5 continents and will return to cross the finish line in Liverpool on 5th July 2008.  The fleet consists of ten 68ft yachts, each being crewed by 16 amateurs and just 1 professional skipper.

My Father faced his illness with immense courage.  I hope to demonstrate a tiny portion of the same courage through my involvement in the race.  So far I have raced 13,500 miles from Liverpool to Australia, across three oceans and through all weathers.  On 15th April I will set off for California where I will rejoin my boat for the last two legs home to Liverpool.    Go to www.michellefanneran.com for blog, photos and video from the boat.

Please dig deep and help me raise £10,000 to support the team at Clatterbridge, by sponsoring me online.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Clatterbridge Cancer Research Trust will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

Many thanks for your support.
