Shooting Star Children's Hospices is a leading children’s hospice charity caring for babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions, and their families. Whether lives are measured in days, weeks, months or years, we are here to make every moment count.

Story

19th - 20th September 2015

These are the dates of the Thames River Row, our fundraising event. It is our common goal to - over the course of these two (long) days - row over 75 miles.

As young, motivated and volunteering athletes, we (the whole of Hampton School Boatclub) are taking part in this annual event in a joint effort by the Thames Rowing community to support a very worthwhile, local and relevant charity to us as teenagers who go to school just round the corner from one of the charity's excellent care centers.

Shooting Star's aim is to make every day count for local families with a child or teenager by providing care services such as:

  1. Symptom management and paediatric care.
  2. Supporting families with advice, counselling and therapies.
In just a few clicks your job will be done: please share this page
( https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/row-to-raise-money ) and feel free to make a donation - big or small, it all makes a difference. For example, £20 would go towards a family's memory box, to help them capture and treasure their precious memories.

Our input, on the other hand, is a little more... strenuous, let's say. The
80 miles broken down into a number of rowing strokes works out as follows:

With 20 strokes being pulled per minute, for approximately 22 hours in total (give or take 3 hours), that works out to a staggering 22,800 - 30,000 strokes...

Best of luck to all those partaking in the River Row, and in regard to your hands - don't forget a decent pair cycling gloves! (A seat pad may also relieve comfort in another area..)

If you decide that we have earned your generosity for an undeniably good cause, you can be sure that your donation through JustGiving will be simple, fast and totally secure.  When you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity. So it’s the most efficient way to donate – saving time and cutting costs for the charity!

Thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page, all and any support or publicity is very greatly appreciated by us rowers, the charity and those supported by Shooting Star ®
