Story

I have set up this justgiving page as a central collection point for the event which took place on 25/5/2014:

We arrived at our meeting point bright and early on Sunday morning and were grateful that at least for the start of the day the sun was shining. We always say that Rowan brings the sunshine out for our events and at this point in the day she wasn’t letting us down.

We got everyone registered and set out on our way, informing the 43 walkers that the decision to do the full moor walk would be made once we got to the point of no return this was due to the weather leading up to the onesie walk been very wet and the forecast not great.

Rowans grandma and granddad were in charge of road support again and provided a reassuring smile and a bottle of water to each walker at many intervals along the way.

Once we reached the point of no return it was raining and most of Team Rowan were already soaked but still had smiles on their faces. As some people tucked into their packed lunch we discussed the plan, we decided due to the unpredictable weather that the Team Rowan onesie walkers would walk for just an hour over the moor and then make their way back to the starting point. This was disappointing in a way as it meant we would not actually get to Rowans tree at Dovestones but we had to consider the safety of everyone involved. We had to put the feelings of disappointment a side and see it that we had 43 people walking in a variety of onesies in memory of our little girl, so close to what would have been her third birthday, all walking to raise awareness and help find a cure for SMA. This was the most important thing.

Most of the onesie walkers made it back to the starting point with just a few calling upon our car support as they had fallen victim to injury or fatigue.

The team Rowan Onesie walkers walked a total of 16 miles, 1 mile further than the original route and most celebrated this fact at our local pub afterwards for sandwiches and cakes with the bonus of a raffle and auction.

Matt and I would like to thank everyone who took part in and supported the 2014 Team Rowan Onesie walk, helping us to keep Rowans memory alive and raised money for the SMA Trust means so much to us.  We look forward to seeing you all again next year
