Flora London Marathon 2009 · 26 April 2009 ·

Every year we support thousands of children and families right across the country. We provide rehabilitation to help children make the best recovery possible after a serious accident or illness, both at our national specialist centre in Tadworth and in the community.

Story

The Children's Trust is a unique charity. I believe it is the only facility in the U.K. that provides residential rehabilitation for children with an acquired brain injury. In addition it provides care, education and therapy to some of the most disabled children in the U.K.

Next year (2009) The Children's Trust is celebrating its 25th anniversary and has also been chosen as the official charity for The Flora London Marathon 2009. In addition they will be opening their new £7.2 million Rehabilitation centre, due to the Trusts largest ever fundraising appeal and very generous corporate and public sponsorship.

Roxanne, my youngest daughter, has been attending the Trust since 1997 for short term respite care, which is another service they can offer. Roxanne has just celebrated her 15th birthday,  which my family believe is due greatly to the love and dedicated care she has received at The Children's Trust. She cannot walk, talk or sit unaided. She cannot tolerate food or drink orally and is fed directly into her jejunostomy, via a pump, to which she is connected 20 hours out of 24. She is so fragile that she has to even be turned in bed at night as her disabilities do not enable her to do this herself. To see more of Roxanne's story check the BBC website by clicking the following link: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/7713011.stm

Roxanne is just one of many children who have attended or are attending The Children's Trust and who are provided with the quality of life they need and deserve. Enabling the Trust to provide the children, and their families, with the many facilities they require takes a lot of money and is an ongoing process.
