Story
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Age Concern Enfield will receive your money faster and, if you are a taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
The money raised will go to the Age Concern Enfield, which works for all older people in Enfield, providing vital services and promoting the needs and rights of older people. I am hoping to raise money in particular to help the Age Concern Day Centre in Edmonton, which is especially for older people suffering from Dementia and Alzheimer's disease. My grandfather, who is in the early stages of Alzheimer's attends this day center twice a week and it brings him much happiness. He eagerly looks forward to attending the day center and although he cannot speak English, he enjoys the activities and truly values the company.
I vhave volunteered at this day centre. The staff at the day center are truly caring individuals and spend every day organizing and engaging the participation of the clients in mind-stimulating activities. E.g: reminiscence sessions: in small groups, begin a conversation to encourage clients to use their long term memories to talk about their past. These sessions gave older people the opportunity to re-live their past and share their life experience, knowledge and achievements. This type of exercise helps restore and preserve a person's identity and self-worth. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the day centre. I found it personally fulfilling and it left me wanting to help more. I have got to know such a variety of characters and learned to appreciate the problems faced on a daily basis, not only by Alzheimer's sufferers, but also by older people as a whole.
By sponsoring me you will be helping to make a real difference to the lives of vulnerable and isolated older people.
I am running in Run to the Beat, the launch of London's FIRST official half marathon! Starting and finishing at The O2, London's premier music venue, the event will take place on Sunday 5th October 2008 in Greenwich.
So please sponsor me now!
Many thanks for your support.
