Story

SET OFF SATURDAY 14TH DEC THIS SATURDAY

A MASSIVE THANKS TO ALL OF YOU WHO HAVE ALREADY DONATED, AND ALSO TO THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE ABOUT TO DONATE THANK YOU.

I WILL BE PRINTING OUT A LIST OF ALL YOUR MESSAGES OF SUPPORT, AND READING THEM FOR MOTIVATION WHEN THE GOING GETS REALLY TOUGH ON THE MOUNTAIN. I

WILL THEN LEAVE YOUR MESSAGES STUFFED IN THE SUMMIT CROSS WITH YOUR NAMES. As it never rains up there and the air is so cold and dry, the list will remain their for many many years at 23000ft, for others to read who make it to the Summit, as I found out when I went to Mount Everest. There were messages to, and photographs of loved ones from the early 1980s still perfectly preserved stuffed in cracks in rocks.
Very touching when you read a heart felt message to a long lost family member/friend who died over 25 years ago and the photo and message were still in perfect condition 25 yrs later. And had probably been read numerous times, and always put back into the same crack in the rock it was originally left in by the person who wrote it and left it their originally.

I decided to climb the Highest Mountain in the world OUTSIDE the Himalayas because climbing Everest is just too expenive for the average man in the street.

This trip has ended up costing me a whole lot more than expected and I mentioned it on Facebook as I was frustrated at the huge price increase AFTER I had paid in full. Before I knew it my friends were ringing / Texting and emailing me offering to help pay for the huge increase in the trip which really put a lump in my throat as I only meant to do this climb for myself and never really thought anyone was at all that bothered about me climbing some unknown mountain down in Argentina in South America that is impossible to pronounce Aconcaqua - AK-KON-CAG-UA.

So I responded on my Facebook page with the below and was bombarded with people telling me to give them my Justgiving page. as they were proud to help me do something not many of us ever get the chance to do.

Ive had loads of you on Facebook ringing me and texting me and posting on here offering to help make up the short fall as the flights have gone through the roof. I really appreciate it and it did bring a lump to my throat that you have offered to GIVE me the money, HOWEVER as much as I really do appreciate all your help, it is my problem I got into it so some one sugg...ested giving any surplus to charity. That still meant me taking money off my mates on here which I dont want to do as its not right its my problem. BUT I will start a Just Giving page up for Walking With the Wounded charity for injuered UK squaddies if anyone wants to give to that. Im not really into these charity runs and walks etc as we all get fed up of these charity things, but I know some of you want to help me out. This will spur me on let me tell you that. If I get to 6000mtrs I will be ecstatic as Ive never been that high before. At 6500mtrs there is a brutal brtual section called the Canaletta which can destroy even the most experienced high altitude mountaineers as it is that high and exceptionally steep. At that point it will be easy for me to throw the towel in and say Ive got higher than I expected, but with people giving money for injured squaddies I can use that and anything else as fitness does not count as much here it is pure single mindedness brutal determination and the ability to turn off to the pain and keep plodding when your totally exhausted that gets you past this section and up onto the summit, as summit day is a 12hr-15hr day starting at 3am. So giving to the charity will force me on as I wont want to let myself down, my family, or those that have donated for the injured squaddies either.
As you might expect Ive watched and read for months on end trawling the web for every video and blog about this mountain. Most of these people seem to be like me, they do nothing for a whole year, except focus all their research and energy into getting themselves on to the summit of this mountain. Then when they reach the summit they just break down in tears at the sheer relief of having made it after all that energy spent getting there. I know for a fact I will be exactly the same if Im lucky enough to be one of the 30% who make the summit, I will be in floods of tears at been so proud of myself at having made it gasping for oxygen.
So any one that wants to help get me up the top can if they want, give to the just giving page when I set it up as it will 100% spur me on I guarantee you that for sure.
