My story
Thank you for visiting the RSPB South West’s JustGiving page, set up because of the floods that affected our Weymouth reserves on July 8 2012.
The floods were a disaster for the wildlife at Radipole & Lodmoor and for our Discovery Centre, which had been newly refurbished for the Olympic Games.
The Centre's re-fit starts at the end of January 2013. We are hoping to do additional flood protection work this time. The latter will cost around £8k and it's likely we'll have to pay for the repairs before we get the insurance money (less the £2,500 excess!).
Please spread the word about our ongoing appeal - this isn't going to be a quick-fix and much more money will be needed to get things back how they should be.

Still no insurance money received. Shop fit starts 28/1. As well as paying for that, we are hoping to put in additional flood protection, costing an extra £8,000, so your help is still needed!
Thank you to RSPB Poole & South Dorset Local Groups for your recent donations.
Our insurance claim is still with the loss adjusters, so we won’t have a clear picture of how much more money we might need until they get back to us. There is always work around the reserve to spend money on though!
Building works at the Discovery Centre will be completed by the end of November & the shop fit will be going ahead in December or January. Luckily the Discovery Centre was unaffected during the most recent floods at the reserve.
We are still waiting for final figures, but word on the ground is that "insurance is looking pretty tight, so we’ll need as much as we can get!". We have nearly raised the £2.5k excess, but that's needed on top of things not covered by insurance.
