On 30th July 2011, I shall be riding my BMW R1200GS motorcycle around the United Kingdom, with my friend Mark, who will be riding his Yamaha Fazer, covering the 4 furthest points of the mainland. We will leave Frimley, Surrey at 8am on the Saturday, and ride to Lowestoft, John O'Groats, St Davids (in Wales), and Lands End, before returning home on Saturday 6th August. We estimate this to be around 3200 miles, depending on the route we take.

 

We will mainly be staying in B&B's and pubs en route, and rather than booking in advance, will just turn up on the day. As we won't have a specific miles per day target, there will be some days where we are covering 200-300 miles, and other longer days when we are covering 500-600 miles.

 

The plan is to see as much of the UK as possible, whilst raising money for Surrey Air Ambulance, a charity which replies solely on donations from the public, and businesses. This charity DOES NOT receive funding from the lottery, or government, so I feel strongly that the charity receives the money it needs to survive.

 

It is one of those charities that anyone may need to call on at any time, whether you break a leg whilst walking in a remote location, or suffer a more serious accident, where time taken to get to hospital is critical.
