Story

In March 2015, my husband and I were expecting our second baby and all seemed to be going well. Nervous but exited, we went along to our 20 week scan, only to be told that our baby had got a very rare and fatal, chromosomal disorder, Triploidy Syndrome. We were devastated, as was our son who was just 3 at the time, as we told him his sister had become an angel and would be living in Heaven.

I gave birth to our daughter of 21 weeks, Hope on 8th March 2015. She was beautiful. So innocent and peaceful.

The days, weeks, months following the birth of our daughter were, and still are harder and more painful than I ever imagined possible. It bought us closer together as a family but further away from "me". Struggling with coming to terms with what we were going through, and not seeming to get any closer to help from the over stretched mental health services from the NHS, I seeked help from Edwards Trust.

I had my first appointment with my lovely councillor, Sue within just weeks of making contact with them. Based in Erdington, it was quite a way from my home but worth every mile. I was given an hours counselling session every week and had contact details for them for whenever I felt the need for support outside of my time there. In addition to this I also had a weekly session with a Complimentary Therapist receiving treatments such as Reflexology, Reiki and being taught the art of mildfulness. I was also offered a place on a retreat in Wales to escape and have some time to myself and with like minded people who had been through similar experiences. They also offered to help my son once he reached 4 if he was also struggling with the loss of Hope.

All of this was at no cost to myself and at no point was I put under any pressure to show my gratitude by supporting them financially.

Now it is time to say thank you on behalf of me, my family and I'm sure other service users of Edwards Trust. The charity is small and I feel not very well known so I would love to help them get recognition for the wonderful work that they do, as if it wasn't for them, I cannot begin to imagine where my family and I would be now.

Please help us achieve this by supporting the walkers of The Rugrat Ramble on 1st October 2016!
