Bupa Great South Run 2009 · 25 October 2009 ·

Myeloma UK is the only organisation in the UK dealing exclusively with myeloma. We provide information and support to patients and their families and help myeloma patients live longer, with a better quality of life by accelerating the discovery, development of and access to new treatments.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page with which we hope to raise as much money as possible for Myeloma by running the Great South Run this year.

We are running in memory of my greatly missed Dad, whose life ended prematurely due to Myeloma.  Dad was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in early 2007.  Throughout the next 2 years he underwent chemotherapy, radiotherapy and two stem cell transplants, all of which failed to give him any lasting resistance to the disease and after a very brave fight he sadly passed away in February 2009 aged only 47.

We want to help raise funds to try to find a cure for this disease.  Please dig deep and sponsor us online today.

About Myeloma

Myeloma is a cancer of bone marrow that mainly affects people over the age of 65, but around 10% of cases occur in people under 45yrs. There is currently no cure, but in recent years a number of new treatments and improvements in care are helping lots of people live with myeloma. Myeloma fund research as well as provide direct support to those affected by myeloma.

About the run

The Great South Run takes place on and is a 10 mile course around seafront and surrounding areas.  Neither David or I have ever run this far, so it will be a real challenge to make it all the way round.

Throughout the years Dad devoted a considerable amount of his time to training young athletes in the Southampton area (myself being one of them for quite some time), and we therefore feel that running this race is a fitting tribute to him....

Please sponsor as much as you can so we can make a real difference - thank you!

Thanks so much, Gemma & David xxx
