Story

Well I did it and I am pictured here with Steve's sister Catherine. My time was 2hrs and 4 minutes which I think was okay for a novice. I was thinking as I went through the 10th mile how it was beginning to feel like the summit climb to Kilimanjaro only that lasted around 15 hours. Although I didn't ache as much after doing that as I do now.

Anyway, thank you all so much for sponsoring me and helping me to reach my target. The website will be open for a few days yet so hopefully I will get some more donations to bump it up. With Steve's sisters sponsorship we have made over £3000 which is fantastic.

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.

As many of you know, my husband Steve was diagnosed with Transverse Myelitis (TM) in February this year. TM is a rare neurological disorder which involves inflammatory attacks of the central nervous system (www.myelitis.org.uk, select UK). This kept him in hospital for 6 weeks, where he had 2 MRI scans, a CT scan, lumber puncture, lots of blood taken, lots of tests done and they still couldn't find out what caused it. He has been very poorly but is making a remarkable recovery, although it will take some time yet. There are on average 300 new cases of TM in the UK each year which equates to around 5 people in every million.

The Transverse Myelitis Society, have for the first time this year, started research in the UK into the conditions' treatments and outcomes. This research is taking place at the Walton University in Liverpool. Together with some good friends, I am helping to raise money for a possible phase 2 for next year which will expand the investigation UK wide. The TM Society is a totally voluntary organisation with no paid staff or overheads so all money raised goes into the support and research for its members.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Transverse Myelitis Society gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

So please sponsor us now!
