CAMFED supports millions of vulnerable girls from rural communities across Ghana, Malawi, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe to attend school and to create the future they imagine - for themselves, for their communities, and for Africa.

Story

WE DID IT!!!

All safely finished after a very wet and VERY muddy 11 miles. It had been raining hard for the two preceding days so the ground was as wet as it could possibly be.  This was 11 miles of very steep hills, deep water, rocks, fallen trees, mud, sand and total exhaustion.. but great fun. There were knee deep puddles everywhere and several stretches of freezing neck-deep muddy water, some of the hills would better be described as small cliffs and the last several miles on soft sand dunes was an absolute killer.

Gen and Naomi were two of the youngest entrants, finishing 6th & 7th in the under 20yrs category - and they also beat the only other entrant their age!

However, it was great fun with a very friendly and supportive atmosphere.  Do have a look at the photos to get a sample of the event, with much of the course inaccessible to spectators these are mostly around the Bog of Doom but the other bogs were just as deep.

It looks like we have blown the target away, we were originally looking to raise £180 which provides secondary school education for a girl in Africa.  With such generous donations we are now looking to double this to £360 which provides secondary school education for two girls in Africa.

Thanks again for your support.

On Sunday 15th November 2009, Genevieve Barr, Naomi Dilley and Marcus Barr will be making up a trio competing in an event known as the HellRunner (Down South).  HellRunner is a multi-terrain foot race around a cold, wet, Longmoor Camp in the South of England; somewhere between ten and twelve miles in length, with deep bogs to wade through and steep mud banks to climb it is a hugely challenging event to complete.

Check it out here: HellRunner HomePage

The reason that we are doing this is to raise much needed money for Camfedwho is dedicated to fighting poverty and HIV/AIDS in rural Africa by educating girls and investing in their economic independence and leadership once they complete school. This charity does some truly fantastic work to help those less fortunate than us, and so spending a Sunday morning getting, exhausted, cold, wet and very dirty doesn't seem such a bad thing if we can make a difference to children and young peoples lives. £180 provides secondary school education for a girl in Africa or helps 150 girls go to Primary School in Africa.
