Story
Before I provide you with a note on how the Marathon went, both the Bailey family and I would like to thank you all for your kind, and incredibly generous, donations. For those of you waiting to see if I completed the Marathon before collecting pledged funds, I can confirm that I crossed the Finish line in 4 hours and 39 minutes. This placed me 14451st overall.
As with all good stories the event was an adventure. I actually ran about 30 miles on the day! The Doclands Light Railway broke down resulting in a large number of competitors having to run to the Start! As a result I managed to miss the Start itself and then fight my way through the crowds of lunatics in fancy dress. How they manage to complete the event is quite frankly beyond me. The run itself was relatively uneventful, although my 3 mile warm up did begin to take its toll at about the 18 mile point. The incredible heat was offset by the wonderful supporters who provided such a fantastic atmosphere. The reception running down Birdcage Walk and The Mall was overwhelming.
The relief at crossing the Finish line was all consuming, running with the knowledge that this was something that Chris wanted to do, combined with the support that you have all placed in me. Thank you all once again.
