My story

Whether you are a parent, grandparent, uncle/aunt or merely have close friends with children, there is no need to spell-out how much our children mean to us and how much we mean to them.  And it goes without saying that we couldn’t begin to imagine life without each other.  Mercifully, for families having to face up to just such a reality, support is available from the Child Bereavement Charity, providing professional help to families when it is needed most.  Some of you reading this will know of Eleanor and Jamie Wroath, who, having lost their 15 month old daughter, Miranda, last January, received invaluable comfort and support from CBC.  Crucially, because grieving the loss of a loved one is not a quick process nor does it last for a determinable length of time, CBC continues to support the Wroath family, and many like them, for as long as it is needed.  But in order to do this, CBC itself relies on getting on-going support from you and I, especially in economic downturns when support from businesses may be kerbed.

For this reason, with a map tucked under our arm, legs loaded with glucose and quite a lot of padding in our shorts, a group of us are cycling from London to Amsterdam to raise funds and awareness for this vital charity.  Mars bars and puncture repair kits at the ready, we set off from London at the end of April, peddling our way passed the sights and sounds of Kent, France and Belgium to complete the 4 day, 350mile trip to Amsterdam.  An extra Mars bar may be required by one of the team, Kit, who (foolishly!) will be running the London Marathon (also in aid of CBC) the day before joining the team for the cycle!!  To maximise the ‘profit’ for CBC, we have organised the entire cycle event ourselves and all of the costs associated with the event (hotel, ferry, support vehicle etc) are funded entirely by the riders – every single penny you pledge on this website goes directly to CBC.

For families grieving the loss of a child or children grieving the loss of an adult, CBC provides a light at the end of, what can seem like, an endless tunnel.  With your help we can ensure that that light stays on.  So, wish us luck, sponsor us lots and together we can support a charity that does so much to support the people that need it.

To sponsor our cycle from London to Amsterdam (or Kit for the London Marathon and cycle) simply click the button on this page - it will take merely a minute for you to donate and make a big difference!

In Memory of Miranda Wroath (23 Sept 2006 to 9 Jan 2008) and in support of her family.
