Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

On the 22nd March 2013 Orlaith Harper Mulligan made a surprise entrance into the world 15 weeks early. Born at just 25 weeks gestation she weighed a tiny 1lb 12oz and although she didn't cry at birth she showed everyone in the room just how strong she was by kicking her long legs.

Sadly, just 10 days into her short life Orlaith suffered a large stroke and was left severely brain damaged. Following this her health continued to deteriorate and  at just 18 days old we were told there was no chance of survival. On the 11th April, aged just 20 days, she passed away peacefully in her Mummy and Daddys arms. During those 20 days she showed enormous amounts of strength, determination and bravery and touched the hearts of everyone who was lucky enough to meet her.

In Orlaith's name, on the 3rd August 2014 Tom, Amy, Greg, Robert, Josh Ross and Debs will be taking part in the Yorkshire stage of Tough Mudder (www.toughmudder.co.uk). This assault course is known for challenging runners both physically and mentally with its notoriously difficult obstacles. High walls, electric shocks, claustrophobic tunnels and endless amounts of calf deep mud make this challenge incredibly physical and not something for the faint hearted!

As physically and mentally difficult as this will be for everyone taking part, in comparison it is only equal to a fraction of the challenges Orlaith bravely faced every moment of every day of her short life.

In doing this, we aim to raise as much money as possible with the hope of donating a brand new incubator to the Queens Medical Centre Neonatal Unit in Orlaith's name.

The care Orlaith received during her short life was immeasurable. The doctors, nurses and other health professionals blessed us with those 20 beautiful days with our daughter and this is how we, her family, want to show our gratitude.

The Nottingham Post recently covered Orlaith's story (link below);
