Story

THIS CAMPAIGN IS NOW CLOSED.. I am intending to do some sort of "Running to London 2" in 2023. Whether this will be the exact same thing, or starting in London and working my way backwards or picking another destination.. I am not yet sure, but please keep an eye on my socials and I will unveil details in a few months.

IF YOU STILL WISH to donate... Even though this page is now closed, please consider still donating to Tenovus via their own website here: https://www.tenovuscancercare.org.uk/donate - Tell them Nicky sent you!!

I RAN the 310 kilometers (or 192 miles) from Swansea Train Station to London Paddington to raise funds and awareness for Tenovus, a Welsh Cancer support charity that does phenomenal work in Wales and beyond.

On Sunday 20th March 2022, we lost Patricia Quirk after a short illness. Pat was a superb mother to my wife Lara and her sister Alexandra, a brilliant older sister to John and an adoring grandmother to our nieces Zoe and Millie as well being a friend to hundreds if not thousands of people in and around Swansea where she was a much loved figure known to most.

Patricia, although not aware at the time, had been suffering with a rare and aggressive cancer called a Metastatic Adenocarcinoma for a number of months. A Metastatic Adenocarcinoma is different to most common cancers in that Doctors are unable to work out where in the body the cancer originated from, making them almost, if not completely impossible to treat successfully.

Patricia sadly passed away peacefully at Singleton Hospital after being cared for exceptionally by the marvellous staff in Ward 7.

She was an incredible woman, an organiser and  the social glue that held together so many different friendship groups and her loss will be felt so much among her friends and family. Almost every gathering took place at Pat's house, if a group were going somewhere for a day out, it was Pat who arranged the train tickets, booked the table for dinner, bought the tickets for the show and arranged getting everyone home safely - everyone else just had to show up on time and Pat did the rest.

Although Pat passed away very shortly after her diagnosis, we as a family would've made a great deal of use of Tenovus's services as we all adjusted to home life facing up to the illness. Tenovus have consistently provided support for the families of cancer patients in Wales and beyond for over 77 years.

You can track my training and preparation on my newly created YouTube channel called "Running to London" here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCOFFa0ar6chdNsVduqB2TSg
