Story

Post Race Update

I successfully completed the London Marathon in 3hr 57min. A little harder than I'd expected with the dinner suit, but pleased with the time.

The James Bond look certainly created an impression. As some of you have been telling me, I was interviewed live on the BBC at about 12.45pm on the day and subsequently it was repeated on Newsround. For those that missed it, you can find the short clip on YouTube at

With your generous donations we have raised over £2500 to date so not too far from the original target.

Many thanks, once again, to everyone and particular thanks to my commercial sponsors - Inclusive Technolgy, Cricksoft and Logotron.

====================================================

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page for Rupert Bear.

I've decided to raise money for Muscular Dystrophy once more, a cause close to my heart through the work I do and the diagnosis of a close family member with Duchenne's Muscular Dystrophy. With your help, I'd like to raise as much as possible for the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign to support those families in need and to fund essential  research.

As many of you will know, I completed the first London Marathon in 1981 and, after a gap of 25 years, somehow finished it again in 2005.  For that run, at the last minute,  I foolishly agreed to attempt it wearing the costume of the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign mascot - Rupert Bear.  It proved a great success and was very enjoyable - honestly! For 2006, I was able to complete the course once more dressed as Rupert and much quicker - I managed to beat Steve Redgrave!

Unfortunately, this year my alter ego is not available so I'll have to show my face to the cameras and public - an unusual experience for me. I've decided to dress as James Bond this time and wear a dinner suit.  I'm not too sure about the gun on the streets of London at present!!

I've set a target of £3000, far too high I'm sure, but everyone has amazed me in previous years with their generosity so I thought I'd be ambitious - between us we have raised well over £10000 so far!

Please dig deep and sponsor me online (and please leave a message – I need all the encouragement I can get!)

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

If you are a higher rate tax payer, note the gift on your tax return and you will get another 23% in tax relief; so donating £78 will cost you only £60 and be worth £100 to the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign.
