Each week at least twelve young people in the UK die suddenly as a result of undiagnosed heart conditions. At Cardiac Risk In the Young we aim to save young lives & to help those affected by the sudden cardiac death. We do this by providing support, information & screening those affected.

Story

Following the very sudden, shocking and tragic passing of Rupert, aged 41, we have raised £7155.00 for the British Heart Foundation. We have now chosen to support another relevant charity, CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young) who work to raise awareness of undetected heart conditions.

On Saturday 19th June, Rupert was very happy that England had won the rugby against Australia and went out for one of his usual Richmond Park runs in the late afternoon. He was almost home when he suddenly collapsed and died immediately from a fatal heart attack. Rupert always said that when he went he wanted it to be quick - it certainly was.

The reaction to his death has been stunning and he would have felt very humbled. We've had so many messages but the overall sense of loss is massive. "He was just really kind." "A gentle giant." "He had an enormously attractive zest for life." "Part of Rupert's great charm was his warmth - we all knew what a loving and proud husband and Dad he was." "Rupert was a star in so many ways - professionally brilliant, inspiring, quietly reassuring and always fun to be with." "We'll miss seeing Rupert's ready smile." "Rupert was a top guy who cared deeply about his family." "Rupert was a bit of a legend really - he had the broadest shoulders and the warmest manner and had a positive influence on many, many people."...and there are lots and lots more messages like this.

Rupert will leave a massive hole in all our lives - but we should be thankful that we have been the lucky ones to have known him. His legacy will live on in Cameron & Freya.

A big thank you to anyone who donates or raises money in his name .
