Story
Home Sweet Home!! After all the training and preparation it's all over!! Anyone thinking of doing Kilimanjaro in the future let this be a warning!! Expect sleepness nights, aching muscles with headaches and nausea thrown in just for good measure!!! Russell and Tom were joined by 10 others when we got to Tanzania and the group of 12 set off from the bottom of the mountain on Tuesday 15th September, all hoping that they will left standing in 6 days time when summit would be reached. Just 5 made it!!!! The final walk which started at midnight in temperatures of -8 degrees took it's toll on many. Unfortunately Tom feel short just a few hundred metres from the top. Suffering from severe Altitude Sickness which eventually led him to believe he could crawl the last 3 hours, he was advised to descend to allow his brain to much needed Oxygen!!! Russell completely oblivious to Tom's crawling and withdrawal continued on, but not exactly in full health. Missing the beautiful scenic sunrise to instead vomit several times. Battling on he reached the summit of Uruhu Peak over 19,000 ft above sea level at 08.45 on Saturday 19th September. Thank you to everyone who has visited this site and donated.
