The Separated Child Foundation helps young refugees in the UK who have become separated from their parents and close family. We offer emotional, social and practical support to separated children and engage in educational activities to raise broader awareness of their needs.

Story

I am running the world famous London Marathon on April 25th.  I am running for the charity 'The Separated Child Foundation!'

Imagine being a child or young person.

Imagine having to flee your homeland because of war, terror or persecution.

Imagine not having your parents with you because they were killed before you left or were unable to leave.

Imagine arriving in a strange country, seeking asylum.

Imagine having absolutely nothing.

Separated children and young people experience the double trauma of separation not only from their homeland, culture and natural environment but also from the adults in their family who gave them care.

'Separated Child' offers emotional, social, financial and physical support to separated children and young people in Britain up to the age of 21. It also engages in educational activities that raise awareness of their needs and encourage positive responses to them.

The Foundation was set up in memory of a friend, Ester Gluck who was tragically taken from us at the age of 24.  Ester was deeply committed to working for the benefit of refugees and people seeking asylum. In particular, she cared about the needs of young refugees, especially those who have become separated from their parents and close family and the charity is a lasting legacy of the work she would no doubt would be doing if she was still with us.

£16 buys an arrival pack crammed full with toiletries, a towel, socks, underwear, clothing, an umbrella, a non-perishable snack and other essentials.

The London Marathon is:

26.2 miles

42.2km

105 times a running track!

I was born a rugby player so this has been a tough journey so far.  Please sponsor me so it will all feel more worthwhile!
