Staples to Naples · 3 April 2009

Edinburgh Children's Hospital Charity believes no child should face hospital alone. Every day, 500 seriously ill children face a life-changing hospital visit. Children tell us it can be frightening. Parents say they're sick with worry. We want to change this. With your support, we can. Are you in?

Story

I would like to thank everyone for their donations and support.

Although we changed the banger last minute, we still managed to drive the 2,000 miles required to get to Rome.

All the crew are back home safe but unfortunately the car didnt make it home and was scrapped. :-(

Please see the picture as proof that we got there in the end.

Many thanks

the Piston u crew :-)

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page!

My friends and I will be doing a sponsored Banger Rally Across Europe this September.

We will be giving all donations to the Sick Kids Friends Foundation which provides funding to assist the work of the Royal Hospital for Sick Children.  Children from all across Scotland attend the Sick Kids Hospital.  Over 100,000 children are cared for every year.  You don't have to be a doctor to help make sick kids better!  Sponsor us today!

A video will be made of the journey and your names will be placed in the credits saying a special thanks.

If for any reason the car refuses to work, you have our word that we will hitch a lift to rome even if we need to sell our luggage.

The Sick kids website is here: www.edinburghsickkids.org

We will keep you updated with all the details and more pictures will come once we paint the car and put funny stickers on it!....Watch this space....

Below you will see the details of our gruelling trip!

Night 0 - 17th September 2009 - Check-In

Day 1 - 18th September 2009 - Calais to Sarnen

There are two set routes to Switzerland: the direct route, where you get to experience the joys of French tolls; and the other taking you through 5 countries and the rural French countryside.

The trade-off is simple. If we actually want to get to Switzerland in time to start Day 2, we might just go ahead and pay the tolls. If we feel  adventurous, we may navigate any way we see fit.

We can always wave at the competition when we cross paths again during there trip back to the UK, which might be the next time we see any of the rest of the rally. (I think the Tolls will need to be paid)

Day 2 - 19th September 2009 - Sarnen to Aprica

Swiss Day! 250 miles in 8 hours, covering anything up 7 passes. This is the Staples2Naples signature day and the exact route may not be disclosed until the morning of Day 2. This usually depends on the day's challenge.

The day begins near the center of Switzerland. The day ends as you drop over the Swiss Alps into the Italian Alps of Northern Italy.

Day 3 - 20th September 2009 - Aprica to Viterbo

Night 3 will see Staples2Naples back in its previous venue, historic Viterbo, Italy

The city saw the recent introduction of a new, large (large by European standards, that is) hotel, so maybe some of our teams, at least, will have the chance to experience clean running water and sheets that you can't see through.

We are nothing if not forever hopeful.

Day 4 - 21st September 2009 - Viterbo to Naples

As in 2006, S2N will most likely stop short of Naples due to health and safety concerns. Naples has some very public problems at the moment.  Rome here we come!
