Many of you will not be aware that I was diagnosed with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder in 1994. OCD is listed amongst the top 10 most debilitating illnesses by the World Health Organisation in terms of loss of income and decreased quality of life. It is thought to affect 2-3% of the UK population and is a serious anxiety related condition, characterised by the presence of recurring and unwanted intrusive thoughts or images.
I discovered the charity OCD-UK in 2006 after years of isolation and shame about my illness. The charity has provided me with wonderful support and given me such knowledge for overcoming a condition that has taken so much from mine and my family's life. With their support I no longer feel ashamed and I have found such happiness and hope.
Earlier this year my daughter Patti was also diagnosed with OCD. It is with the support of OCD-UK that I have been able to come to terms with this and know there is such hope and support for Patti in the future whilst the charity is running.
Please help to continue this support for myself and Patti and other OCD sufferers by sponsoring us for the adidas Women's 5k challenge in Hyde Park on 7th September 2008.
Thank you.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It's also the most efficient way to sponsor me: OCD-UK gets your money faster and, if you're a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
