On Saturday May 10th 2008 the Grimes Family – Ruth Robin Lucy David and Elizabeth - will be taking up the challenge to walk The Ridgeway, Vale of the White Horse, Oxfordshire. Ruth Lucy and David will be attempting the entire 13 miles, while Elizabeth (and Robin) have a slightly more modest challenge of 7 miles. We will be joining with friends, professionals and families affected by Batten Disease to raise funds and also to increase awareness of this devastating group of childhood conditions.
Batten Disease is the main Paediatric neurodegenerative Disorder in the . Approximately ten children are diagnosed each year in the . Children are well for the first months and years. I have been Medical Advisor to the BDFA since its beginnings 10 years ago and have always been impressed by the dedication and enthusiasm of the individuals and families I have worked with. The BDFA has grown and matured. It recently hosted and sponsored a unique conference bringing together scientists and clinicians in building a strategy to “Bring Therapy to Batten Disease”.
Please could you sponsor us for this event either per mile or by promising a set amount. This can be cash or a cheque made out to the BDFA or via the justgiving website (www.justgiving.com). If you are a tax payer, then please consider ticking the Gift Aid Box, which will allow the BDFA to claim extra from the Tax man!
