Story
DEAD LINE 27th APRIL 2012.
In June 2012 to August 2012, I am taking a trip to Borneo, Malaysia with Raleigh International Trust. Here I will be helping out developing villages and their local communities.
Raleigh International was set up in 1978 to partner with third world countries and helping young people learn more about them selves and the world around them.
In total I need to raise £3000 to go on this trip, but i would like to raise £4000. In order to raise this sum i shall be organising some fundraising events such as, a pub quiz, charity gig and a raffle. I may also do a car-boot and i will be gathering sponsors via this page.
This trip is one of a life time and i am sure it will teach me some unforgettable and valuable lessons. So any amount you can donate will be greatly appreciated. THANKYOU!!!
Where does the money go?
76% goes towards running the expediditon in terms of recruting and working with our project partners, including the local youth programme and supporting the young people who come on expedition from the host counrty, staff costs in-country, running field base, food and accomodation, in-counrty travel, specialists equipment, insurance, traning in the UK and in-country etc.
12% goes towards recruitment and marketing
11% towards head office overheads
1% is the cost of the governance of running a charity
The expeditions:
Located on the island of Borneo, Sabah has it all: stunning mountain terrain, equatorial rainforests, and some of the most beautiful islands in the world. Borneo is home to a unique range of plant, insect and animal species found nowhere else on the planet. It also boasts rich marine life with some of the best dive spots in the world. But it is its rich mix of cultures, people and history that Sabah has most to shout about. Over 30 different tribes live in Sabah speaking over 80 different dialects. The people of Sabah practice many different religions, all living and working together to make this a wonderfully friendly place to spend time volunteering on a Borneo expedition
The projects:
At Raleigh we aim to ensure that all our projects are worthwhile, appropriate and sustainable. To achieve these aims all Raleigh projects are identified, planned and implemented with local partner organisations. We work with our partners to gain an understanding of the developmental needs of the country so that our projects compliment the national development strategy.
Our partners help us to identify the communities or areas where Raleigh can make a real difference. They help us to select projects that: meet a real development or environmental need in that country, are appropriate for the location and valued by the local community, and projects that the local community or organisation will continue to benefit from after the Raleigh expedition has ended.
There are three main projects Raleigh pioneer. Here is a link for each Borneo one if you would like to read in more detail:
