As you may or may not be aware, my mother, Mandy Jupp, suffered from a stroke just 3 months ago. My mum is a fit, sporty, and healthy person, who prided herself on participating and "winning" in most sports. She was playing squash and tennis everyday right up until the stroke hit. She lost all feeling and movement in her right side and lost the ability to speak. She was in intensive care for 3 weeks before she was able to be moved to a rehabilitation centre, where she soon found her strentgh. She managed to break 2 wheel chairs through doing laps around the centre and they ended up giving her their oldest and slowest wheelchair in an attempt to slow her down.
Now, 3 months on, through pure determiantation, and with the help of the fabulous staff, nurses and doctors around her, she is on her way to hopefully, a full recovery.
It is because of this, that I am participating in the London Marathon for The Stroke Association, and hope to raise a total of £5000 for a brilliant cause.
The Stroke Association is hugely under funded, and they depend on the support from others in order to help stroke sufferers like my mother. They fund research into prevention, treatment and better methods of rehabilitation, and help stroke survivors and their families directly through their community services.
