Race Update

Day One: The start of the race was cancelled due to horrendous flooding which killed 24 people in Morroco and left thousands homeless. The race organisers agreed that the race should go ahead on day two and should still be 151 miles, but now to be completed in five days and not six. The sun later came out and started to dry up the land.

Day Two: RACE ON!!! Race started at 10am, temperature was an average of 30 degrees but felt like 40. race was run over 33km (20 miles) which I finished in 4h 32m. I finished the day in 287th position out of 812, so I am in the top third of runners.

Day Three: It was very humid in the morning when the race started at 8:00 am. we ran for 35km (21 miles) today. Temperatures got upto 25 degrees by midday, again it felt hotter. Some of the sand dune are like mountains, they are the biggest dunes in the sahara apparently! I ran todays leg in 5hr 6m and increasing my position to 268th I am now 4hr 23m behind the race leader!! he must be a freak of nature!! Tomorrow is the killer day with over 55 miles to run! wish me luck.
DAY FOUR (KILLER DAY):  The weather is getting hotter each day, today it was 36 degrees. We ran for 91Km (56 miles) today, and i am knackered. We did get a coupe of pit stoips at each water station but i was well aware of the sooner i finish this the sooner i can rest!!! It took me 18hours 16m today (the race leader took 8h6m, he is a real freak). i have been running for a total of 27h55m so far. Off for a deserved rest now, report back tomorrow

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

I am running in the Marathon des Sables in March 2009. Its a 6 day, 151 mile run across the Sahara Desert. I am anticipating blisters bigger than my feet, my toe nails to drop off, heat exhaustion, and the possibility of being bitten by a venomous creature.

My chosen Charity is Zöe's Place.

Zöe’s Place Liverpool has now been in operation for 14 years, caring for babies with multiple special needs and life limiting or life threatening conditions. The Hospice does not have a set catchment area and welcomes babies from all over the country. Zöe’s Place currently cares for 45 babies and their families on a one to one basis, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

As they do not receive central Government or NHS funding, they rely entirely upon the generosity of the public, grant making trusts and corporate partners to raise current running costs of £700,000 per annum

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Zoe's Place Baby Hospice - Liverpool gets your money faster and, if you’re a taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

So please sponsor me now!
