On October 25th 2009, I will be participating in the Sahara Race
(Egypt) as organised by RacingThePlanet. This is a unique category of
rough country footrace that takes place over five days and
approximately 250 kilometres. The actual race is the equivalent of
doing 4 marathons in 4 days and then a double marathon (50 Miles) to
finish on day 5. All of this is done not on roads but across the harsh
terrain of the hottest desert in the world, the Sahara. During the race
competitors must carry all their own equipment and food. The only
things they are provided with are water every 10km and a place in a
tent each night.
I will be doing all this in aid of the Breast
Cancer Campaign. As you may know, breast cancer is the second most
common type of cancer and the fifth most common cause of cancer death.
In the UK 45,000 cases are diagnosed and 12,500 deaths occur as a
direct result every year. Money raised will aid the Breast Cancer
Campaign by funding innovative world-class research within the UK to
understand how breast cancer develops, leading to improved diagnosis,
treatment, prevention and ultimately a cure.
Hopefully you are
now sitting in your seat going "Wow!! That will be an awesome
achievement" and not "You are insane and probably going to die".
If you are (and even if you are not) then please take 2 minutes of your
time to sponsor me. All the proceeds of your sponsorship will be going
to the charity and not lining anybodies pocket. I will be funding the
cost of flights to Egypt and all the equipment I need myself.
Every single £ you donate will help and I already have donations
ranging from £1 pocket money all the way up to £100 from some of the
big spenders so don’t feel bad if you only want to donate a small
amount.
