Sail-the-Dream · 14 March 2008

The Foundation aims to promote boating attainable for all. People disadvantaged by youth age disability financial hardship or social circumstances are under-represented in the boating world. We give grants to fund the facilities needed to open doors to new participants and develop social capital

Story

My name is Jack Daly and I was born on the 27th September 1991.  In the summer of 2008 I plan to sail singlehanded around Britain to raise as much money as possible for charity.  I hope to sail for 7 – 8 hours a day and then stay in harbours and safe anchorages overnight.  At this time I see this challenge achievable and will be a great experience.

I have chosen to sail a Corribee, with their renowned sea keeping capabilities and traditional yacht characteristics it seemed an excellent choice.  The boat which I have purchased is a Mk II Newbridge Corribee called ‘Padiwak’.
I have different reasons for attempting the challenge, the experience, the challenge but the main one is to raise money for RYA Sailability.

 ~ Why Sailability? ~

I have chosen Sailability as the charity as I believe that everyone, if possible should be able to experience the sport of sailing. I have helped with Westbere Sailing Opportunities (WSO) and it has exposed me to the amazing organization of which Sailability is.  Last season (2007) WSO volunteers put in some 5,000 hours and ran 93 sessions for 1200 people. It is a voluntary run charity with centers all over the country, found at all centers is an enthusiastic and dedicated team of people who are always ready to help. Helping with WSO has touched me and I will always remember the smiles on people’s faces who have been able to experience sailing. When sailing you become free to go where you like and do what you want and this is the same for everybody and the more people we can help achieve this the better.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: RYA Sailability will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

Many thanks for your support all donations are gratefully recieved and will be put to excellent use. If you have any questions about the trip please do not hesitate to contact me at jack@sail-the-dream.co.uk

Please keep looking at www.sail-the-dream.co.uk for up to date progress on the trip.
