About our charity : The Ellen MacArthur Trust The Ellen MacArthur Trust
The Ellen MacArthur Trust takes young people aged between 8-18 sailing to help them regain their confidence, on their way to recovery from cancer, leukaemia and other serious illness. Sailing is perfect for these children; it gives them a chance to test themselves in a safe and supportive environment. Simply the experience of going out on the water for the first time is an adventure. Each child has the challenge of helping sail the yachts throughout the voyage and takes part in all aspects of the trip from sailing the yacht to the washing up! The children come from all over the country, including Northern Ireland, London, Essex, Sheffield, Dorset, Wiltshire, Hertfordshire, Hampshire, Kent, Nottingham & Ellen’s birthplace, Derbyshire.

Our personal message:

Thank you for visiting the Sail for Charity fundraising page.

Sail for Charity was set up in 2005 to raise funds for popular charities through sailing-related activities. By competing at Cowes Week 2006, we raised almost £7,000 for Sail4Cancer. In 2007 we surpassed even our own expectations by raising £10,000 for the Ellen MacArthur Trust and we're aiming even higher this year!

The Sail for Charity team will be raising funds by competing at highest levels during the 8 day regatta that is Skandia Cowes Week 2008. Each day involves an early start for the dedicated crew who must be out on the water with the boat powered up and ready for the start of the race - a race which will take teams to sea come rain or shine, demanding skill, determination and focussed effort throughout.

Team sponsorship from Healthsure, plus the money paid by crew members for their space on the boat covers all costs, so your donations and sponsorship go direct and entirely to the Ellen MacArthur Trust. Please sponsor us - we can assure you based on last year's experience, we will be working very hard for your money!

We're supporting The Ellen MacArthur Trust because their work  benefits children who's lives are affected by serious illnesses including Cancer and Leukaemia. As parents ourselves, this seems an obvious choice.

If you feel you can help, then please dig deep and sponsor us online.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor us: The Ellen MacArthur Trust will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

If you would like your sponsorship to be attributed to a specific team member, please include their name in your message.

Please keep an eye on our web page www.sailforcharity.com if you would like more details of the team's efforts and progress.

Many thanks for your support.

Team Sail for Charity 2008.
