Story

Hi!

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page. As some of you may be aware I have been selected to race across the Atlantic next summer, from Tenerfie to Bermuda in the Tall Ships Transatlantic Challenge 2009 as a Watch Leader onboard Rona II. This leg will be an all female crew with 23 of us living onboard a 68ft yacht (
its going to be cozy!) for an estimated 23 days at sea!

What is the Tall Ships Race?

The Tall Ships races are organised in waters around Europe every summer, however 2009 is different, as several thousand young crew members from 30 + countries will be racing across the Atlantic. This race is organised by Sail Training International and attracts over 400000 visitors in each hosting port.

In order to participate in this voyage I aim to raise a minimum of £1500 through sponsorship. Through my own efforts, I have so far raised more than £500 with a sponsored cycle ride, cake sales at work and a car boot sale, but in order to reach my target I will need some assistance. I am therefore looking for donations to help me reach my sum required. With your support I will be one step closer to fulfilling a childhood dream.

The Rona Trust is a non profitable sail training organisation set up in 1960.  The aim of the Project is “to provide (through the medium of sea training in offshore craft) opportunities for young people and people with disabilities to acquire those attributes of a seaman, namely; a sense of responsibility, resourcefulness and team-work, which will help them throughout their lives. The project is now stronger than it has ever running four sail training yachts, and has extended to taking both males and females from all across the country aged 14 to 25 away for periods of up to 6 days at a time. They  now has strong connections with groups such as “Mind” a mentally handicapped group, visually impaired and deaf associations and its most recent connection is “Sail 4 cancer”  giving them the opportunity to achieve something they once thought they might never have been able to do.
