Thanks for visiting my fundraising page. After my birthday last year I decided to see if I could get fitter, possibly even lose some weight. The motivation for this was the realisation that I would soon be celebrating (?) a “significant birthday”. So in early February this year I started to go jogging. Some of you will know that I have always considered jogging to be a personal no go area so in a way this was why I chose it. Not only to help me improve my fitness but also to see if I could challenge myself and change my opinion. Initially I managed to jog for a mere 3 minutes but after a relatively short period of time I was running for 50 minutes, not only with no ill effects but actually enjoying it – maybe I’m hooked!! Then the opportunity to make this into a challenge arose. Peter, my husband for those of you who don’t know, is both a Trustee and a volunteer at Age Concern Wandsworth, and they had some places for the UK 10K run, a huge event taking place on the streets of Central London on 6 July. So here I am in training, yes, me, who only a few short months ago couldn’t even run for a bus. You will have realised what is coming next. In order to make this event really meaningful I need your help. So I am asking you if you will sponsor me. I have never asked for sponsorship for anything before. This is not really surprising, I have never run in a 10K race before – or indeed done anything other than put my small change in the charity box at Prêt a Manger whilst waiting for my double shot latte. We all hope we will live to a ripe old age, so the chances are high that some of us will be grateful for the services that Age Concern can offer. Its philosophy and its services are geared to helping people live independently in their own homes as long as they want to. In the teeth of reduced local authority provision imposed by lower central government funding, there is an increasing need for the services offered by Age Concern.
So please sponsor me now!
