Escambray Encounter, Cuba · 8 November 2006

As a result of long-term health conditions, more than 1 in 10 children in the UK can be denied a carefree childhood, and this number is growing. Our programmes empower children and families to explore new possibilities and rediscover the fun and magic of childhood.

Story

Thank you for visiting our fundraising page.

"This trekking expedition took place on the Caribbean island of Cuba, starting in the vibrant capital of Havana, and ending at Trinidad – just off the South coast.  Havana is the Caribbean’s largest city and much of the old quarter remains untouched despite the various wars and revolutions that have taken place over the last 200 years.  Most of the cars on the road are large American Chevy's and Buicks from before the revolution, and buildings have remained largely untouched for more than half a century!"

But our challenge started once we left Havana!  We trekked for four long days over undulating and tough-going terrain.

So far, we've raised money by:

* Seven themed quiz evenings with raffles.  Thanks to: Ross and Gareth, our quizmasters and question-writers; Patricia and Nick, our hall-dressers; Vickie and Monica, our raffle ticket sellers/folders; and everyone else who attended, donated food and raffle prizes and helped out.

* Two birthday parties: 70th in March and 60th in April.  Thanks for everything, Shirley and Barbara!

* Manning the gate at the Matfield & District Riders Association (MDRA) horse show in July.  Thanks very much to our team: Gareth, Sarah, Daniel, Vickie and Samantha!

* A barn dance with raffle in October.  Thanks to: Melanie, for organising of this annual event for the third year running; Monica and John, for preparing the ploughman's meals; Shirley, Vickie, Samantha, Chris and their friends for setting up and clearing up; and everyone else for coming along and thoroughly enjoying themselves!  Samantha also held a charity cake stall and her class held a sponsored silence.

Both we and the Over The Wall Gang Camp really appreciate your donations and support.
