In 2009 the Kent Air Ambulance flew 890 missions, with an average cost of £1,750 per mission. The total cost of £1.7million per year to run our county’s Air Ambulance is funded almost entirely by donations.
CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT?
We can’t, which is the main reason why we have decided to cycle 350km around Cuba in 5 days. Having worked (fairly) hard in the last 6 months of University to achieve reasonable degrees, we were on the hunt for a new challenge.
We both grew up in Kent, and have now returned to our homeland to conquer in the grown up world of work. Fortunately, neither of us have had to have a ride in the Kent Air Ambulance, but maybe one day someone we love or even ourselves may end up in it (If you’ve been in Sam’s car you know this is only a matter of time!). It is an incredibly vital service to the people of Kent, and we really do hope that you will sponsor us in our challenge.
Here’s a few interesting facts that really put things into perspective:
The Kent Air Ambulance began in 1989 and since then has flown a staggering 14,000 missions
It is available to every person living, working and travelling through Kent, 365 days a year
£500 will buy just one hour of flying time
From its base in Marden, the helicopter can reach the furthest point in Kent in just 17 minutes, and is never more than 7 minutes from a receiving hospital.
If we reach our target, we will have covered the costs for just one day’s service.
