Story

Hello everyone! ☺️

Thank you so much for taking the time to visit my page.

On the 15th May 2016 I'm taking part in Cancer Research UK's Race for Life at Walsall Arboretum (5K) with my team of family and friends #SambasArmy. I've decided to take on this challenge to give something back to the charity that help saved my life.

My Story

My life changed forever on the 9th January 14' when I was diagnosed with stage 2B Hodgkins Lymphoma, a type of blood cancer. I was a healthy and active 23 year old, I didn't think I'd get cancer.. My world fell apart in the blink of an eye.

I started chemotherapy (ABVD) on the 17th February every two weeks for six months. The poison that was chemo going through my body made me feel so weak, I had been sick more times then you can even imagine. It wasn't easy and I'd experienced levels of anxiety I didn't even know was possible but I kept pushing through and on the 22nd April I got my results from my halfway scan and it showed there was no activity and the cancer had gone! 3 months went by and on the 24th July I had my last chemo. I was so happy to be finished.

Unfortunately remission didn't last long and on the 29th December the cancer had made a comeback.. My world was once again being pulled apart by the horrible disease. I had to go through 2 more rounds of chemo (IVE) which was more intensive and took a really toll on my body, I found it hard to just do small tasks. I was in and out of hospital as an inpatient for about a month for treatment, then on the 25th March I was admitted to Heartlands Hospital in Birmingham for an auto stem cell transplant. Treatment began with 6 days of chemo (BEAM) which on a scale of 1-10 of how bad the chemo was my consultant described it as a 12 so as you can imagine it was hard. It was harder than I'd imagined it would be, I was continually hooked up to chemo and fluids. On the 2nd April I'd reached day 0 which was when my new stem cells were pumped back into me. I was in hospital for about 3 weeks and those weeks were the most challenging of my life. I'd never felt so sick and never felt so much pain in my life. On the 16th April and day +14 I went home still feeling weak obviously but I was so happy I was back home and surrounded by family.

On the 30th June 2015 I got the results the transplant had worked and I was OFFICIALLY CANCER FREE! Cancer took so much away from me including losing my hair twice but, it also has taught me some pretty important life lessons that I am very thankful for.
