I have run the British 10K for A-CET, a small independent charity run with passion by dedicated, experienced, professional volunteers. I had a scholarship from A-CET during my undergraduate and graduate studies which played a major role for my current PhD research (on malaria) at the Sanger Institute and Cambridge University funded by the Wellcome Trust.

Currently, I am a trustee and executive assistant to the CEO. I also take part in supporting A-CET students in Ethiopia and helping A-CET’s overseas awareness and fund raising.
Although Ethiopians are known for running, this is my first full 10K. I hope to use both copies of my running gene and finish in good time.
We are raising money in support of our elementary school upgrading projects. More than 90% of the money donated goes to projects/students.
How A-CET uses the money:
- £500 will buy 25 local desks for 50 - 75 students who currently may well be sitting on stones
- £6,000 will build a classroom for 50+ students
- £11,000 is needed for Library/Activity Room; £6,000 for Staff Room & £6,000 for Store (all in one block)
- £5,000 will build deep trench latrine for eight
-Schools also need other items like blackboards, notice boards, shelves, tables and chairs
