Story

Friends, family, people who wanna make a change, I need your help!

As most of you know me and my beautiful lady Melissa went on a life changing journey around India for 5moths, we visited some of the most beautiful places and met amazing people, amongst the many places we visited we found a little surfing town just outside Chennai called mamallapuram.

I happend to pick up a book called Seven years in Tibet, after reading this amazing true story I wanted to know more about this country and its people. I hunted for books on Tibet and its history and read about the karmapa and the uprisings in 2008 which then inspired me to visit the largest Tibetan settlement outside Tibet, Dharamsala.

We were blessed enough to be in the presence of his holiness the Dalai Lama and spent two days at his teachings which was the trigger  to try and help make a change.

Whilst listening to his teachings I didn't understand how a man or a simple Buddhist monk as he calls himself could be so kind, so forgiving and so loving after everything him and his people have been through and even towards the Chinese people.

A little history for you guys:

In 1950, shortly after Mao Zedong's communist revolution, China invaded Tibet. Tibet pleaded for assistance from the United Nations, the British, and the newly independent Indians for assistance - to no avail. In 1959 a Tibetan uprising was squelched by the Chinese and the leader of the theocratic Tibetan government, the Dalai Lama, fled to Dharamsala, India and created a government-in-exile. China administered Tibet with a firm hand, prosecuting Tibetan Buddhists and destroying their places of worship, especially during the time of the Chinese Cultural Revolution (1966-1976).

Its now 2013 and the oppression of these people is still on going,so I'm going to do three challenges to raise funds for my chosen amazing charity the TIbet Relief Fund,

- Manchester marathon at the end of April

- 108 sun salutations no stop in Turkey

- Tough mudder event in October

I really need your help to raise funds for an amazing charity and the vital work they do, here's some of the things your donations will go towards

  • Building schools, medical centres, old people's homes and libraries in Tibet, India and Nepal
  • Facilitating a broad educational sponsorship programme for Tibetan children in India and Nepal
  • Developing a ground breaking Tibetan run youth initiative to include mentoring, career development and vocational training in India
  • Promoting health and medical programmes, travelling eye clinics and providing materials for grass roots health care in Tibet, India and Nepal
  • Partnering with NGOs in Tibet to provide access to clean water, community water pumps and solar kettles for nomadic families
  • Equipping Tibetan settlements in India and Nepal with essential tools and implements including tractors, ambulances and water tanks.

Come on guys lets do this lets make a change together!
