Story

Samuel Smith's London-Paris Bike Ride

Officially the youngest person ever to cycle from London to Paris -
A world record!

We have done it! Four fabulous, sun-filled days cycling through the beautiful French countryside, finishing at the Eiffel Tower! Such a tremendous achievement and such a fabulous cause.  Samuel and Mike cycled some awesome hills and the gel-bottomed pants were an absolute godsend.  Alexander (11) joined them some some of the journey, whilst Claire and Sebastian ate a lot of croissants and negotiated the Place de la Concorde without incident.  Thanks you so much to all our friends and sponsors for such tremendous support and goodwill through some of the darks times ..It has been worth it!  We are planning the next one now...watch this space!
Catastrophe! Sadly, our ill-fated bike ride has had to be postponed once again. Samuel fell off his bike two days go, whilst doing a quick 15-mile training run before tea and has broken his wrist.  Despite protestations he is really not able to cycle over 180 miles on the wrong side of the road through city traffic where he needs to be in control (fat chance!). So, we WILL be doing it in August, when Paris empties out and all sensible Parisians take refuge in the cool, calm countryside! A sponsored knit next time I think! Bear with us ...we will be back!

Thanks to you all for your donations, and messages of support. x

To all our kind friends and colleagues who have sponsored Samuel's epic bike ride..we have had to postpone for a few weeks. My poor dear mum is terribly ill and as she has held my hand throughout my life, I need to be there to hold hers in her remaining days. The boys are dreadfully disappointed but are training hard and looking forward to unveiling more lycra! We will be doing it at half term..not long to wait. Please bear with us and thank you for all your support. Claire Smith (Samuel's mum - the back up team)

Hello, my name is Samuel Smith, and I am a pupil at Wellington School. At Easter, I will try and enter the record books by becoming the youngest person ever to attempt the gruelling cycle ride from London to Paris.  I am a  keen cyclist and rugby player, and I will be doing the ride to raise money for the charity that supports my younger disabled brother.  Sebastian, 8, has a rare genetic condition – Rubenstein-Taybi Syndrome, which results in severe learning difficulties and other associated disabilities.

I will be cycling with my dad, and my mum and two younger brothers will the back-up team.  We aim to complete the ride within 4 days doing about 50-60 miles per day. It is a very exciting prospect and will be for an excellent cause. Sebastian is adorable and this will raise awareness of Rubinstein Taybi syndrome. The Rubenstein Taybi Support Group helps peoople with the condition and offers help to their families
