Story
Ex Northern Sanayca is an expedition to the Cordillera Blanca in Peru, in which 12 intrepid people will attempt to climb the highest mountain in Peru - Huascaran (6768m).
During the first week of the expedition we'll be in a tiny village, Sanayca, located in the foothills of the Andes. Sanayca is a traditional Andean village, where most people live a simple subsistance lifestyle. The village has a school, and children travel from the surrounding region to attend the school. However for many of these children, the distance they have to travel each day precludes them from attending school every day.
In conjunction with Project Peru, Ex Northern Sanayca will begin the construction of a hostel in which local children from the surrounding villages can stay when they attend school. The hostel will provide basic accomodation and food, thereby allowing many children to recieve an education they would otherwise miss out on.
On June 6-7 2009 all members of the expedition will be participating in the Lowe Alpine Mountain Marathon. This is a 2 day, self sufficient journey through the highlands of Scotland, with a wild overnight camp. This is simply training for the greater physical challenges that lie ahead once the team arrive in Peru. High altitude mountaineering is really really tough!
The expedition and all the training are being financed by the team members themselves. Any donation you make goes directly towards the construction costs of the hostel that the team will construct in Sanayca.
Education is a key enabler that will allow the people of Sanayca to work towards a better future. Please give as much as you can.
