My story

 

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

I have signed up for this challenging trek, which I'm funding myself, and for which I am training hard, to raise much needed funds for the Huntington's Disease Association. HD is a rare degenerative brain disorder caused by the Huntington gene and therefore can be passed on from generation to generation. Each child of a sufferer has a 50% chance of inheriting the illness. There is no cure at present.

My father had HD and sadly my sister has inherited it from him and now her eldest son has it too and therefore, his two young children are now at risk. I am 66 and am so lucky to be showing no signs of the illness.

At the moment the HDA isn't able to employ a Regional Care Adviser for Kent and South London. Many Regional Care Advisers cover several counties meaning the time they spend travelling is time not spent with the HD sufferers and their carers. HDA needs your help and we appreciate every pound donated.
