Thanks for visiting our fundraising page. We have now completed both the Great North and Great South runs - a total of 23.1 miles - legs still aching slightly. Both were great events and we would like to thank everyone who has sponsored us and also those who have encouraged us to keep going. The weather in Newcastle was perfect, very cool and bright and this year there were more showers to run through. Supporters were out in force and there was a real community feel as families stood at the roadside looking out for their family or friends. Most were running for large charities and there were a few small ones too - we wore our Home-Start vests with pride. The highlights for me were the Red Arrows soaring along the sea front just a mile from the finish in South Shields and the music along the way. Snow Patrol's, Chasing Cars will always send a shiver down my spine. In Portsmouth the weather was very different and it rained for most of the run. This didn't put the supporters off though and the roads were lined with people holding umbrellas and sporting wet weather gear, babies and toddlers cosy in their covered in pushchairs. People were cheering the runners on and it was great to hear a young girl shout, "come on Home-Start". I wondered whether Home-Start Portsmouth had supported her family. We are really pleased with the amount of money we have raised and would like to thank evereyone who has sponsored us so far - we have exceeded our target of £500 and are now hoping to raise £1,000.
We are raising money for Home-Start Uk - a great charity that supports over 340 local Home-Start schemes. Please visit the web-site www.home-start.org.uk to learn more about the work of Home-Start - whether volunteering for the charity or receiving support and friendship from a volunteer, the experience is often life-changing. Being a parent, looking after children 24 hours a day is tough - and even more difficult without the support of a loving family and friends. Thankfully, Home-Start volunteers can offer the non-judgemental and friendly support that families need when their children are young. Just being alongside and offering a listening ear every week can often make the difference between coping and not coping
Help us to make the difference for families who just need that little bit of extra support.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Home-Start UK gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
So please sponsor us now - thank you from Sandra and Gerry.
