I have entered the 10K run in Ashtead on the 14th of September in order to raise money for Greyhound Gap, a charity that rehomes greyhounds. I would really appreciate any donation, big or small, to help me run up and down the hills on Ashtead Common.
Greyhounds are bred to earn their owners money in the racing industry. When they are about 4 or 5 years old, they become too old for racing. Many dogs are then abandoned, neglected or killed. Greyhound Gap, and various other charities, try to rehome these dogs. Greyhounds make fantastic pets, and have really earned their retirement homes after their racing days are over.
Greyhound Gap is a small charity that rehomes greyhounds that are about to be put to sleep by pounds. The dogs are quarantined in kennels for a few weeks, where they are neutered, vaccinated and receive any medical treatment they might need. They are then found a temporary foster home. The foster home gets the dogs used to living in a family, instead of in kennels. They also assess the dogs’ personality and needs, so the right family can be found for them.
In the picture, you can see Tom the greyhound and myself on a beach event a few months ago. Tom was in kennels, but has now found a home. As a volunteer walker at the kennels, I was lucky to spend some time with Tom and the other dogs at the kennels, and to learn how gentle and laid back these dogs are.
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page. I hope you will donate to Greyhound Gap. I am sure your donation will be greatly appreciated by the charity and by the dogs that benefit from it!
