Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.
So who am I, what am I doing and why should you sponsor me?
My name is Sandra and I turned 40 last year. I am wife to Steve, and mum to James, 6 and Lyla, 4. I spend most my time running around after them, as well as working part time in our family business, looking after my neice twice a week, cooking, cleaning - you know, the usual things !!
I am cycling from LONDON TO PARIS from the 9th-13th SEPTEMBER 2009.
The ride will take 4 days, although we are away for 5 days. We will cycle approx 300 miles, which will be between 60 and 90 miles per day. Although I cycle with the family, the most mileage I've covered in a day is about 15 miles, so this will be a real challenge for me. Finding time to train will also be challenging as well as fitting in some fundraising. But being away from my family for 5 days, especially as Lyla starts school around that time, will be the hardest part. That said, I am really excited and this will be a huge acheivement in my life.
The reason I have undertaken this challenge is to raise funds for the Prader-Willi Syndrome Association (UK), a cause very close to my heart. Our very good friends Jemma and Mike became the proud parents of Luke on 12 Dec 2008. After a spell in special care Luke was diagnosed with PWS. He is such an enchanting little boy, full of smiles and giggles and is already thriving at home growing stronger day by day. He will need some dedicated support to ensure that he reaches his key milestones and full potential.
The Prader-Willi Syndrome Association provides the support, understanding and the experience of other families with PWS that Luke and his family will no doubt look to at times throughout his life.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It's also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Prader-Willi Syndrome Association (Uk) gets your money faster and, if you're a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
I already need to thank my husband, the rest of my family and Jemma and Mike for being so supportive. Without them this wouldn't be possible.
Please sponsor me now, any amount BIG or small will help!
01.06.09 - Completed my longest cycle so far today - 38 miles. Training is going well, the hardest part is finding the time!! Thank you for everyone's support - it has been phenomenal so far, and way beyond my expectations - no pressure then!!
04.08.09 - I do not like hills!!
09.09.09 - we're off - 330ish miles to go.
14.09.09 - I did it!! What an amazing experience - 330 odd miles which equates to about 33 hours in the saddle!! A massive thank you to all who have donated and had kind words of encouragement. Everyone has been so supportive and amazing and I hope that I have helped the charity and raised awareness of PWS as that what this has all been about.
