Zoo staff leap 13,000ft for Leopard and Tiger conservation!
On the 4 August at Chatteris Airfield, 19 staff members of Colchester Zoo will be participating in a tandem jump at 13,000 feet for Colchester Zoo’s charity Action for the Wild (AFTW).
The funds raised will be donated towards 'Wildlife Vets International' for the Amur Tiger & Amur Leopard projects which AFTW support. The Amur Leopard and Amur Tigers are the rarest big cats and are both listed as Critically Endangered by the IUCN.
The project is part of a wider effort to assess the health of wild and captive leopards and their prey base in the wild. The ultimate aim is to provide comprehensive disease screening of both wild and captive Amur Leopards so a second population can be released into the wild. . As well as looking at Amur leopard populations the project now includes the Amur tiger in its analysis.
John Lewis, the Amur Leopard EEP veterinary advisor, as well as the vet for Colchester Zoo, is acting as consultant to this project. Action for the wild is dedicated to conserving Amur Leopards and Tigers so staff at Colchester Zoo are proud to be helping raise these vital funds.
