On May 15th 2008 my wonderful mum and my bestest friend ever lost her 2 1/2 year battle to Motor Neurone Disease, she was aged 60. She left a family that loved her so dearly and my 2 little boys Jamie and Callum lost their very special Nanna.
Motor Neurone Disease is a progressive disease which causes weakening of the muscles, which eventually affects movement and function of limbs, speech, swallowing and breathing. Up to now there is no cure for this devistating disease. It usually attacks healthy people in their prime of life.
'Life with MND may be short but its certainly worth living'. The Motor Neurone Disease association provide help and support to those suffering with MND by providing essential equipment to enable them to live their lives to the best they can. They also provide support to their families. It is vital that this work can continue to help others that are having to cope with this terrible disease. By the MNDA funding extensive research hopefully one day a cure will be found.
On Sunday 14th March - Mother's Day, I will be taking part in the first England Kilomathon. 26.2km or 16miles (HELP!)
It is certainly a challenge for me, as those of you who know me know I have only ever achieved 2 x 10K run with a months break inbetween!!
I will be running / walking / crawling to the finish line in memory of my MUM. I am not able to give her a present, but I can try and raise as much money to assist the MNDA to continue their work and hope they find a cure so that others do not have to go through the pain we have been through.
My mum painted her rainbow picture shortly before she died and rainbows now play a huge part in our daily lives, so please rest assured that even if it is raining on Mothers Day, I will still be there completing this challenge. At various times since mum died rainbows have appeared when I have needed her, for example on my birthday last year, so really hoping I get to see one this Mother's Day as thats sure to help me to the end.
Alot of our family and friends have supported so many of our fundraising events over the past couple of years, but I am asking please please can you support me on this one. I need to raise as much money as I can to get me to that finish line.
