Story

Hayden Maloneys story-

Hayden was born  full term, 10 days over due by emergancy C-section as he was in alot of distress and his heart rate was plummeting with every contraction i had. When he arrived he had what seemed to be no blood circulation to the lower part of his left arm. He was rushed off to the neonatal unit to find out what had gone on and after some investigation and test then went into theatre and underwent a 6 hour operation at just 2 hours old. They removed a large blood clott in his shoulder that had seemed to have stopped the blood flow to haydens arm and killed the muscle and tissue inside his forearm. Early hours of the next day hayden suffered 2 strokes and we later found out he had another clott in his brain which had caused these seizures. The out look didnt look good for him and he was extremely poorly for a number of weeks. This little boy is pretty remarkable in what he fought off in those first few weeks. He had to under go intense physio twice a day in his incubator for the best possible chance of him ever being able to use his left arm, he ended up with neonatal gangrene as a result of the lack of blood to his hand and lost the ends of 2 of his fingers and a severely disfigured hand and arm. He also managed to fight off MRSA and he just kept on fighting everything else that came his way. Hayden had alot of things thrown at him in those first few weeks but he never let any of this stand in his way and was finally allowed home after a rollercoaster 6 weeks. If it hadnt been for the fantastic and dedicated staff in the neonatal unit and the others around the hospital plus all the equiptment in the neonatal unit hayden wouldnt be here today. So we are just wanting to give a little something back to them to help towards buying more vital equiptment to save the lives of poorly and premeture babies born every day, which is so very costly! The other part of this story is the fantastic cleveland unit nursery within the hospital that brought hayden on so much before he started school. He has been left with walking difficulties as a result of the strokes leaving him with a weakness down his right side and speach and language delay, aswell as physical disabilities and severe scaring after the numerous operations he has had to try and repair his left arm. The teachers and other staff in there do an unbelieveable job and im so greatfull to them for hayden being where he is today. If it wasnt for all their hard work and help bringing him on with everything plus haydens own strength and determination, i dont think he would have ever been able to attend a mainstream school or gain the beliefe and self confidance that he shows today. Anybody who knows me, hayden or our family personally will know just how much he has been through and know just how much of a fighter this little boy is. Also just how vital all the care, help and support has been to us over the last 6 years and the ongoing treatment he still needs at james cook hospital. So all i ask is if you can spare any money, however small the amount (every penny counts) to donate to these 2 very worthy causes to buy more specialist equiptment to help save and change the lives of others everyday we would be eternally greatfull and im sure the hospital will be too!

Thank you for taking the time to read our story and to everyone who donates...
