Hello everyone! As many of you know, I'm taking a career break - time to do something that makes a difference in the world. I leave in June 2008 for Costa Rica and Nicaragua to volunteer as a Project Manager for the charity Raleigh International. What will I be doing there? Besides fighting off killer mosquitoes in rainy season jungle (!) .... I'll be working with groups of young people from a wide range of social backgrounds on long-term, beneficial environmental and community projects such as building a primary school for a local community or supplying running water to a remote village. Why am I doing this? Last time I had an opportunity to take part in a worthwhile project overseas was with the Metropolitan Police working at an orphanage in Romania in 2004 ...... fabulous people and a truly rewarding experience (also got to wear a really attractive forensic all-in-one paper suit!). I am really excited to be part of a bigger project this year. .... even if this time, there'll be no luxuries like toilets, electricity or running water!! So why am I asking for sponsorship? I will be working as a volunteer and my trip is entirely self-funded. However, Raleigh asks each participant to raise a minimum amount in order to fund the environmental and community projects we will be carrying out. Sponsorship will not only fund the materials and equipment, it will also enable young people from disadvantaged backgrounds and from the host community to take part in the projects. Please consider sponsoring my project with Raleigh International. This site makes donating very simple. It is fast, totally secure and if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
Massive thanks for your support. Your donation really means a lot to me and to Raleigh International.
With lots of love Sarah xx
