My story

Thank you for visiting our fundraising page.

This page has been set up in memory of our granddaughter and niece, Mia Grace McMurchie who died aged 7 weeks from complications arising from premature birth and TOFS (Tracheo-Oesophageal Fistula Syndrome).  In her memory and on behalf of her twin sister Emily Jane, my dad and I are planning on loosing a minimum of one stone in weight each, and the money we raise will go to the Newcastle Healthcare Charity, particularly Ward 3 of theRoyal Victoria Infirmary Hospital in Newcastle upon Tyne.  Ward 3 is the Intensive Care Baby Unit, where many seriously ill babies and children are treated.  This unit needs support to buy better machines and monitoring equipment, and more nursing staff too, as each patient has their own dedicated nurse.

Our slim commenced on 12 February, and on my official weigh in I came in at a rather unexpected 13st 1lb, and dad was a fairly impressive 13st 11.5lbs (photographic evidence for both of us is available on request!).  The page will be updated accordingly to let you know of our progress.

"Mia, In your short life you showed bravery above any we have seen before. Even though that mountain was just too high to climb, you didn’t give up. You are truly the child of your Mammy and Daddy, whose strength is beyond comparison. Though your time with us was short, your beautiful reflection will remain, in Emily and in us all. Our tears may stop but will never dry. The special bond you shared with your twin will live on."

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to donate: Newcastle Healthcare Charity will receive your money electronically and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in Gift Aid will be added to your donation at no cost to you.  All money donated will go directly to Ward 3.

Please donate generously.

Many thanks for your support.
