About my charity : Hammer Out Hammer Out
Hammer Out is a registered charity that supports people with brain tumours and their families. Established in 2002, we are based in Thornbury, near Bristol and now have a committed team working towards raising awareness of brain tumours and the devastating effects that they have on both patients and those who love them. As well as offering a personalised support package, agreed with patients and their families, we also raise money to fund vital research into this incurable form of cancer. We aim to support children and adults across the South West region who are affected by brain tumours. To date, we have raised over £400,000 and currently support 80 families across the region.

My personal message:

The triathlon challenge...

Some of you may know that I completed my first triathlon at the weekend.  It started off as a challenge to be able to complete one and to raise money for Hammer Out and Asthma UK, but due to the hours or training that I have put in I have entered myself into another 3 (for the moment?) it will be the summer of triathlons for me!

Events:

Grendon Triathlon, Grendon Lakes, Northampton Saturday 24 May  – 750m open water swim 20k bike, 5k run
JP Morgan Cazenove Triathlon, Dorney Lakes, Eton Saturday 14 June – 400m open water swim 20k bike, 5k run
Bedford Aquathon, Bedford, 750m open water swim 5k run – Saturday 26 July
Northampton Triathlon, 750m open water swim 15k bike 5k run – Saturday 7 September

My inspirations are my amazing sister Emma who was diagnosed with a brain tumour in August 2006.  It was a horrible scary time for her and all the family but thankfully she survived.  She has made it her mission to raise as much money as she possibly can for Hammer Out, a brain tumour charity who support patients and their families through the traumas of brain tumours so I am helping to fulfil her mission.  She is truly an inspiration and she has taught me what the meaning of brave really is – I love you Em!

My other inspiration comes out of a terrible tragedy.  My best friend Becky lost her close friend Alison Clare Turner who was only 34 in April 2007 to an asthma attack.  Sadly Ali left behind her lovely husband Dave and their two gorgeous boys, James who was nearly 3 and Billy who was 9 months old.  Ali hadn’t had a serious attack for over 10 years and it truly brings home the fact that asthma can be a killer.  Me, my sister, my brother, my step dad, my brother in law, and now my Ruby have all had or still suffer with the disease.  Asthma attacks are a truly terrifying experience and Asthma UK need as much money as possible to help to prevent tragedies like this from happening.

I will be running my races in memory of Ali…

SO PLEASE SPONSOR ME AND HELP ME TO RAISE AS MUCH MONEY AS POSSIBLE FOR THESE CAUSES THAT ARE VERY CLOSE TO MY HEART.

Unfortunately Just Giving cannot split my money between two charities which is why I have had to create two Fund Raising Pages.  You will see the link above to Asthma UK - click to take you to my other page.  I would ask that you please split your donation between both charities – sorry about the extra hassle and thanks so much for your time.
Sarah xx

I am going to set up my Face book account soon which you will be able to click on to follow my progress...

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.
