Story

Hi everyone!

Thank you so much for taking the time to visit my fundraising page.

On the 27th August this year it will be 10 years since my gorgeous mum passed away - I can't quite believe that it has been that long! So, to mark the anniversary and hopefully raise a lot of money for charity, I have decided that I would really like to challenge myself (I must be mad?!), and climb Mount Kilimanjaro in memory of my wonderful mum Corinne.

I am absolutely bricking it, but I keep thinking what an unbelievable experience and achievement it will be if I can do it! And hopefully an amazing way to raise some much needed money for a charity close to my families heart, as well as marking and celebrating my mum's life! And what with turning the dreaded 30 milestone this year, it feels even more poignant and fitting to do something amazing like this.

In memory of my Mum :-

Mum passed away at the age of 47 after a 3 year battle with cancer. She was initially diagnosed with breast cancer in early 2000, undergoing chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and a mastectomy, before finally losing her hard fought battle in 2003 when the evil cancer returned.

I always knew my mum was a very special person, but it's when someone is faced with the biggest battle of their life that you truly see what they are made of, and every inch of the way my mum showed me the true meaning of guts, courage, determination, and most importantly, how vital it is to have a good sense of humour! Quite simply, she is my inspiration!! For me, being able to do something like this and challenge myself to the max is being able to celebrate the woman that my mum was! If I can become even half the woman that she was I will be a very lucky lady!

The Challenge :-

I will be leaving the UK on the 28th August, the day after mum's anniversary, which feels really apt and even more special. Over the space of the next 12 days, I will be flying into Tanzania, Africa and attempting to summit Mt. Kilimanjaro, the world's highest freestanding mountain, which at 5,895m is one of the largest volcanoes to ever break through the Earth's crust. The trek will take me through 5 different eco-systems, as I trek, camp, and probably crawl in agony up that blooming mountain (Eek!!). It is a mammoth challenge, both physically and mentally!

Accompanying me on this crazy adventure will be my lovely friend Karen, who will not only be sharing this adventure with me, but will probably have to put up with me singing 'Ain't No Mountain High Enough' Diana Ross stylee all the way! Her just giving page is here if you would like to support her too: http://www.justgiving.com/KarenJoanneGrant

The Charity :-

I am raising money for the Helen Rollason Cancer Care Appeal, a local charity based in Chelmsford, who actually helped my mum a great deal when she was undergoing treatment, as well as helping many other people across Essex, offering support and care, to not only those battling cancer, but their families and loved ones too. It is such a worthwhile cause, and relies heavily on donations and fundraising. http://www.helenrollason.org.uk/index.php

So please please dig deep into those pockets to support me and the charity. I have an awful lot to raise, the minimum being £2800, which would make such a difference to such a worthy cause. It is not every day that you see someone climb a mountain, so please please give generously. Every donation will mean sooo much and truly help to keep me spurred on through the months of grueling training, as well as every step up that blooming mountain!!

This is such a big mental and physical challenge and I hope I can make everyone proud.

Many Thanks

Sarah x
